Eduardo Peñalver, a professor of property law and land use at the University of Chicago Law School, has been named the next dean of Cornell Law School, the school announced Tuesday. He will take the helm July 1.

Peñalver replaces Stewart Schwab, whose second five-year term ends this school year. Schwab, who has taught at Cornell since 1983, plans to take a yearlong sabbatical before returning as a professor in the fall of 2015.
