Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Barry Kamins has been relieved of all administrative duties pending a state Commission on Judicial Conduct probe into allegations that he provided improper political and legal advice to then Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes during Hynes’ unsuccessful campaign last year, officials confirmed Monday night.
Hynes was implicated in a report by the New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) contending that the former district attorney used drug forfeiture and other seized assets to support his failed bid for re-election. The report also quoted emails in which it said Kamins advised Hynes on campaign strategy, provided legal advice and discussed open cases with the prosecutor.
