The Aug. 20 article, “Bill to Change Rikers Island Prosecutor Is Challenged” discusses the objections regarding the passage of bill A.7333/S.4928 authorizing Queens County to prosecute offenses committed at Rikers Island.

Those in opposition of this bill are on the wrong track. The goal of this legislation is to ensure the efficient and effective administration of justice. As the chair of the Standing Committee on Codes for over 20 years, I have strived to improve the criminal justice system and this bill does just that.
