Five families in Buffalo and Rochester and a charter school advocacy group are suing New York state, arguing its method for funding public charter schools is unconstitutional and has a disproportionate impact on minorities.
The plaintiffs include families whose children attend charter schools and the advocacy group Northeast Charter Schools Network. Represented by Herrick Feinstein and Buffalo-based Connors & Vilardo, plaintiffs filed Brown v. New York, Monday in Erie County Supreme Court against the state and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the Legislature and education officials.
