ALBANY – A state appeals court has ruled that an Albany law firm must pay toward unemployment insurance for a contract attorney who worked for the firm for two weeks.

The West Law Firm had the requisite employer-employee relationship with Joseph LaValley to establish its obligation to him, an Appellate Division, Third Department, panel ruled. LaValley sought the benefits after his brief stint at the firm in February 2011.
