A federal judge has signed off on a $275 million accord in litigation that pension funds pressed against Royal Bank of Scotland and other defendants regarding the sale of certain mortgage-backed securities.

Southern District Judge Loretta Preska (See Profile) on Tuesday gave her final approval to the settlement in New Jersey Carpenters Vacation Fund v. Royal Bank of Scotland Group, 08-cv-05093. The pension funds commenced the litigation in 2008 in connection to the packaging and sale of 14 public offerings of “Harborview” series mortgage-backed securities.
