Anthony Marshall, the son of New York socialite and philanthropist Brooke Astor who was jailed for stealing millions from his ailing mother’s estate, died Sunday at age 90. His death was announced by his widow, Charlene, in a paid notice in The New York Times.
Marshall was convicted of grand larceny in 2009 following a six-month trial during which his two sons testified against him. After numerous appeals, he was sentenced last year to 1 to 3 years in prison, becoming the oldest person ever incarcerated for a nonviolent crime in New York (NYLJ, Aug. 23, 2013).
