A few years ago, I applied to be a civil court judge, like Justice Helen Freeman did many years before, and I was asked to provide a definition of a good judge. I replied that that was an easy question.

First, she or he must be honest. Second, she or he must possess a reasonable amount of common sense. Third, she or he must have courage. Fourth, she or he must be courteous. And then, if she or he has some knowledge of the law, she or he would make a great judge.
