After the University at Buffalo’s law school dean announced plans to step down this month, the school named James Gardner, a specialist in election and constitutional law, as its interim dean.

Gardner is the Bridget and Thomas Black Professor at the University at Buffalo Law School, a designation he will retain while serving in the interim position, the law school said in a news release Tuesday. His position is effective on Saturday.
