A multi-billion-dollar lawsuit over bribery and the theft of lucrative mining rights in the Republic of Guinea will be heard in New York, a federal judge has ruled.

Southern District Judge Richard Berman (See Profile) rejected the argument of Vale S.A. that it should be allowed to defend, in London, claims it conspired with others to steal the iron ore mining rights of Rio Tinto in Guinea.
