New York City and civil rights lawyers have reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit over police stop-and-frisk practices in public housing.
Attorneys with the Law Department, the Legal Aid Society, the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison filed papers Thursday in Davis v. City of New York, 10 Civ. 0699. The suit accused police of routinely stopping and arresting New York City Housing Authority residents and guests without probable cause or reasonable suspicion of criminal activity, and were doing so in a racially discriminatory manner.
