Jury selection in the trial of alleged al Qaida conspirator Khalid al Fawwaz is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Judge Lewis Kaplan (See Profile) denied a Jan. 5 request by defense lawyers for Fawwaz to delay trial for 60 days and move the trial to another district. The order was issued following a closed-door pretrial hearing, with Kaplan saying he would follow the order with a written opinion explaining his decision.
