A Bronx jury awarded a $45.6 million verdict to the parents of a man who was paralyzed when he was 14 years old during surgery for scoliosis and later died.

Edward Beloyianis, a Dix Hills resident, was admitted in November 2002 into New York- Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University for surgery to correct his spine. He was paralyzed from the waist down by four screws that were misplaced during the surgery.
