A judge has barred New York City from operating a law enforcement database that would track transactions by pawnbrokers and other businesses selling secondhand goods.
Bronx Supreme Court Justice Mitchell Danziger said a challenge brought by a loanbrokers’ association and individual pawnbrokers has enough likelihood of success to warrant a preliminary injunction against enforcing the city law that established the database.
