A Brooklyn appeals court has thrown out one of two assault convictions as well as an obstruction conviction for a Queens man who sicced his pit bull on two police officers and was sentenced to 12 years to life in prison.

According to a decision Wednesday by the Appellate Division, Second Department, in People v. Cofield, 10485/10 and 10358/11, and in media reports, on Aug. 2, 2010, New York City Police Department narcotics officers pursued Claudia Nunez in Astoria into an apartment where Jeffrey Cofield was present and holding a pit bull by the collar.
