Leonard Silverman, a former Court of Claims judge who served five terms in the New York State Assembly and who was known for finding common ground both in Albany and on the bench, died on Sept. 7 of natural causes. He was 84.

Silverman was born in 1930 in Brooklyn, where his mother and father owned and operated a lumberyard, and became involved in Democratic politics at a young age, according to an obituary prepared by Adam Silverman, one of Leonard Silverman’s three sons and an attorney who works as senior vice president of business and legal affairs at Defy Media.
