Cynthia Arato and Alexandra Shapiro, both 51, have made the transition from large-firm practice to boutique law.

The two launched their own litigation boutique in January 2009, a seemingly “risky proposition” in the best of times and particulary daunting in the middle of a financial crisis, they say in a recent column they wrote for Bloomberg BNA.
