Perry Weitz, the founding partner of Weitz & Luxenberg, a prominent personal injury firm that employed former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, repeatedly testified on Wednesday that he knew nothing about state grants that Silver was awarding to a doctor who had referred asbestos cases to the firm.

But under cross examination with Silver’s defense attorney, Joel Cohen, Weitz also said he never spoke with Silver about any legislative business and pointed out that it’s not unique for a doctor to refer patients to law firms.
