The Manhattan District Attorney Office is appealing a judge’s decision to throw out a nearly 25-year-old conviction in a deadly tourist mugging that symbolized a dangerous time in New York City.

Johnny Hincapie, 43, made a brief court appearance Monday for a status update, about a month after being freed when Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Eduardo Padro vacated his convictions of second-degree murder, and first- and second-degree robbery on the basis of new evidence (NYLJ, Oct. 7, 2015).
