A Manhattan-based commercial litigation firm specializing in debt collection has reported to the New York State Department of Labor that it will lay off an estimated 75 of its 119 New York employees by Feb. 23.

According to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice that Jaffe & Asher filed with the department, the firm said the layoffs are due to economic reasons. A majority of those being laid off are paralegals and support staff, according to Scott Ross, chief financial officer for the firm.
