ALBANY – On Thursday, after steering the Third Branch for more than 25 years, Jonathan Lippman will step down as the leader of the state’s most powerful court, the Court of Appeals, and as the court system’s chief administrator, due to mandatory retirement rules.
Before serving six years in the preeminent position in the judiciary, Lippman was presiding justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, for two years; chief administrative judge for 11 years and the deputy chief administrative judge for six more.
