As New York City tries to curb unnecessary detention in its jails, the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services on Thursday announced its list of selected agencies that it says could help the city expand supervised release as an alternative to incarceration.

The office proposed the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services to receive a contract capped at $5.3 million to serve Manhattan. In Queens, the New York City Criminal Justice Agency will receive nearly $3.7 million. The Center for Court Innovation will receive up to $3.3 million for work in Brooklyn, nearly $3 million for work in the Bronx and almost $1.2 million for work in Staten Island.
