Francis “Tim” Murphy, who was the presiding justice in the Appellate Division, First Department, for 20 years, died Wednesday after a short illness. He was 89.
Murphy’s tenure as presiding justice stretched from 1977 to 1997, capping a judicial career that began as a New York City Municipal Court Judge in 1957.
