ALBANY – After Janet DiFiore was ceremonially installed Monday as chief judge of New York, she said reducing case backlogs in the court system will be her first priority.

DiFiore introduced what she called her “Excellence Initiative,” describing it as an “objective, self-critical analysis” of how the Office of Court Administration runs the courts. She said it will focus first “on the backlogs and delays we are experiencing, some of which are dramatic, and determining the root cause of the problems.”
