The state Court of Appeals has agreed to hear the appeal for reinstatement filed by a disbarred attorney who was referred in 2015 by an appeals panel as a “noted authority” on family and divorce law.

The court indicated on Feb. 23 in Matter of Joel R. Brandes, Motion No. 2015-911, that it has granted Brandes’ motion for leave to appeal from the June 3, 2015, decision by an Appellate Division, Second Department, panel denying his latest bid for reinstatement. It was the third time Brandes failed to regain his license since his 2002 disbarment.
