Floyd Abrams, a partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel who has argued numerous high-profile First Amendment cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, was the keynote speaker at “Free Speech Under Fire: The Future of the First Amendment,” a symposium sponsored by Brooklyn Law School on Friday.
During his remarks, he discussed and read from notable opinions by late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in First Amendment cases pertaining to free speech. Abrams said that, while he and Scalia did not agree on a number of issues, “you would be forever grateful” if “he was on your side” in an argument or in one of his opinions. “We will miss someone who can write and think like this and who can defend the First Amendment so effectively,” Abrams said.
