The Justice Department will seek review of an Eastern District magistrate judge’s refusal to force Apple to assist in the decryption of a locked iPhone involved in a drug case.

The agency in a statement said it was disappointed with Magistrate Judge James Orenstein‘s ruling Monday, which concluded the government’s bid to compel Apple’s “reasonable technical assistance” was not “agreeable to the usages and principles of law” as contemplated by the All Writs Act of 1789.
