Five law firms that represent a class of corporate plaintiffs pursuing antitrust litigation against News Corp. have been given free rein by the company to request as much as 30 percent of a proposed $244 million settlement—or $73 million.
But Southern District Judge William Pauley first must approve the proposed settlement, which was announced this month just before opening arguments were to start in a scheduled trial. Then the judge must approve the fees.
