A former New York state senator convicted of federal felony obstruction of justice charges was suspended from the practice of law Thursday by the Appellate Division, First Department.

John Sampson, a Democrat who had represented part of Brooklyn since 1996, was convicted in July 2015 of attempting to cover up the embezzlement of $400,000 from the sale of foreclosed homes.
