An estate planning attorney has agreed to surrender his law licenses in New York and Florida after admitting to misappropriating about $1 million from the estates of a brother and sister from western New York.

Stephen M. Newman, 71, improperly made himself sole trustee of family trust accounts that June and Worth Farrington intended to benefit charity and, instead, diverted more than $900,000 between 2008 and 2011 for his personal use, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said.
