New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said his administration is cooperating with an investigation by the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s Office into environmental safety in some city housing projects due to lead paint levels. Prosecutors are also seeking information about potential false claims from the city for payments from the federal government.
On Wednesday, Southern District Judge Deborah Batts signed an order in In re: Civil Investigative Demand, 15-78, directing the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene to turn over records of some residents of the Housing Authority (NYCHA). Batts said the records reflect “complaints of unsafe, unsanitary, or unhealthful conditions in NYCHA public housing.”
