Debt collectors must disclose in a collection notice that a consumer’s current balance may increase due to interest and fees, a federal appeals court has ruled.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit clarified the law as it reinstated a claim against a law firm based on its failure to meet the disclosure obligations under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. §1692e.
