A judge awarded benefits sought for nine years by the widow of a firefighter who had responded to the 9/11 attacks, and said the New York City Fire Department’s pension and medical boards had acted in bad faith.

Since 2007, the Fire Department’s pension fund and its internal medical board denied the benefits to Jackie Kaht Fernandez, the wife of FDNY Lt. Cruz Fernandez, who died in 2006 at age 52.
