A lawsuit alleging the U.S. Census Bureau discriminated against black and Hispanic job seekers and used flawed processes in screening applicants for criminal records has been settled.

In a deal announced Tuesday between the U.S. Department of Commerce and lawyers for a class of some 450,000 plaintiffs, the Census Bureau has vowed to improve procedures for conducting criminal history checks for temporary employees.
