Queens Supreme Court Justice Duane Hart, an assertive judge who was known for his imposing demeanor in the courtroom, died Tuesday. He was 62.

In the years before his appointment as a Civil Court judge in 2000, Hart worked in the Queens District Attorney’s Office and in private practice. He served as Civil Court judge for two years before his election to the Supreme Court, where he presided over a civil part.
