Resolving competing claims of ownership, a federal appellate court has ruled that a New Jersey couple must return the 7.35 carat pear-shaped diamond to the jeweler that had consigned it to a celebrity stylist 13 years ago.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said the William Goldberg Diamond Corporation was the rightful owner of the gem, reasoning that the stylist was not a merchant with the power to transfer the company’s property rights over to a buyer.
