A judge threw out a man’s resisting arrest conviction, ruling that it was illogical to punish him for trying to prevent something that had already occurred.

William O’Connell’s relatives called 911 about his agitated behavior after he arrived home in May 2013 after a brief hospital stay. Police said he surrendered a broken ceramic knife he had in the waistband of his pants.
