ALBANY – The First Amendment rights of a Christian evangelist were violated by police enforcement of a 40-foot buffer zone around entrances to the site of an annual gay pride festival in Syracuse, a federal judge ruled.
Northern District Judge Lawrence Kahn ordered the city of Syracuse not to impose buffer zone restrictions on James Deferio and his attempts to engage people entering or leaving this year’s Central New York Pride Parade and Festival, which is scheduled for June 18.
