Sheldon Silver and Dean Skelos may think they have fresh ammunition for their appeals on political corruption charges following a major U.S. Supreme Court decision on Monday, but federal prosecutors beg to differ.

Reaction was swift from attorneys and others involved in the Silver and Skelos cases when the high court reversed the theft of honest services and Hobbs Act extortion convictions of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and did so by setting the bar higher for what qualifies as “official acts” by a public official.
