The office of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman received the “best brief award” from the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) for an amicus brief joined by 20 other states in the U.S. Supreme Court case of Evenwel v Abbott, 14–940.
The Supreme Court, in an 8-0 April decision, accepted the states’ position that they may draw election districts to count all residents, whether or not they are eligible to vote. Texas resident Sue Evenwel had argued that district populations should take into account only eligible or registered voters in the district, not total population.
