Harvey Newkirk, a former Bryan Cave counsel who was sentenced to six months in prison for wire fraud, was suspended from the practice of law Tuesday.
Newkirk was convicted by a federal jury in December for his role in a scheme to fraudulently induce lenders to provide millions of dollars toward the purchase of Maxim Magazine. Prosecutors said he misrepresented that his client’s father, a successful businessman, would pledge personal assets as collateral for loans, when in fact the father never agreed to provide financial backing nor authorized Newkirk to represent him.
