A federal suit seeks a permanent injunction against the New York City Police Department from retaliating against citizens who videotape officers as they perform their duties.
The action, filed July 6, contends that punishing those who record police in public places, as long as citizens are not interfering with the performance of officers’ duties, is a violation of citizens’ First Amendment rights.
