Seizing on language of new U.S. Supreme Court case law, attorneys for convicted ex-lawmakers Sheldon Silver and Dean Skelos are asking New York federal judges to allow the politicos to remain free on bail while their cases are on appeal.

In papers submitted late Monday to Southern District Judges Valerie Caproni and Kimba Wood, respectively, attorneys for Silver and Skelos said their clients’ convictions cannot stand because of the Supreme Court’s June decision in the case of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.
