The New York Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday urged a Texas congressman to show “due respect for federalism” in his efforts to obtain communications about a state investigation into whether Exxon Mobil made misleading statements about climate change.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, responding to a noon deadline set by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said in a letter that his House committee has no oversight authority on the office’s investigations.
