Government tax agents have been blocked from enforcing a summons against an American citizen being investigated for tax evasion through offshore bank accounts.

Ruling in a wide-ranging investigation into a 2008 global tax scandal involving a financial institution owned by the royal family of Liechtenstein, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said Steven Greenfield’s Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination would be violated by enforcement of an IRS summons.
