A surrogate has approved a $1.5 million settlement in a wrongful death suit filed by the family of a pedestrian who died in 2013 after being struck by a New York City Police Department van while he was using a Brooklyn crosswalk.

On the afternoon of July 6, 2013, Felix Coss Jr., 61, was crossing Broadway at the intersection with Hooper Street in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn when a police van being driven by Paula Medrano turned left onto Broadway and struck Coss, according to the complaint filed on behalf of Ivan Coss, an Ohio resident who is Felix Coss’s brother.
