A judge has rejected a challenge to the New York City Department of Education’s decision earlier this year to shutter a struggling charter school in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Lara Genovesi ruled that schools chancellor Carmen Fariña was within her authority by deciding not to renew the charter for Beginning With Children Charter School, which was issued its first five-year charter in 2001 and had two locations in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
