The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s auctioning off of government-guaranteed mortgages discriminates against African-American homeowners, according to a class action lawsuit filed in Brooklyn federal court.

The lawsuit says HUD sold some 1,000 delinquent Federal Housing Agency (FHA) mortgages to the highest bidder as part of its note sale program without informing African-Americans that they no longer have the benefits and protections of an FHA mortgage.
