A COALITION of education-related groups, public school districts and students’ parents may proceed with its claim that New York state is violating students’ rights by falling short of mandated funding goals, an appeals court ruled.
The decision by a unanimous panel of the Appellate Division, First Department, upheld a lower court’s 2014 decision that the plaintiffs have standing to allege that underfunding schools deprived students’ of their rights under Article XI of the New York state Constitution that they receive a sound basic education.
