A Brooklyn judge has cleared the way for the immediate family of a woman who has been in a vegetative state for almost 13 years to remove her from life support over the objections of blood relatives who allege that she expressed a desire to be kept alive if she were incapacitated.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Kathy King ruled that a decision by the attorney appointed as special guardian to a woman identified as Jane Doe, who was incapacitated in 2003 after suffering massive brain damage during childbirth.
